The Obligatory Scene In EVERY World War II Movie
I Present... The Glenn Miller Dance Hall Scene
I recently began watching Masters Of The Air. A miniseries on Apple TV about US bombers over Europe during WWII. So far, so good! The CGI is top-notch.
That being said, I need to briefly bring up the obligatory WWII scene that every damn WWII movie/miniseries MUST have in it.
The Freaking Glenn Miller Dance Hall scene.
Every. Single. WWII. Movie. Every single WWII show MUST, apparently, have this scene. You know what scene I’m talking about. At the dance hall in the dress uniforms. Getting ready to go off to fight. Meet the sweetheart. Sneaking rum into the fruit punch.
It is always set to In The Mood:
Did these tough as nails American teens and 20 somethings LOVE Glenn Miller that freaking much?? Was he the Taylor Swift of 1941?? I need answers and I need this insanity to stop.
You don’t have to put the Glenn Miller Dance Hall Scene in ever single WWII movie. Even though it is… obligatory.
Tell me a good WWII movie that doesn’t have this scene and you’ll see a WWII movie that is much better for it. I’ll go first: Fury. And Inglorious Basterds. See, you don’t need to have it. You just think you do.
Disclaimer: I don’t hate Glenn Miller. Just this specific scene.
Maybe they use Glenn Miller so much because of his mysterious disappearance. As soon as I saw the title of your piece, the first song I thought of was Moonlight Serenade.
I absolutely despise Inglorious Bastards. Don’t ask me to explain. I can’t. I just hate every single thing about it. Always have and always will. Maybe it would have been better with a Glenn Miller dance scene. Or at least tolerable. 🤣
