Do they pull the car out of the lake after it sinks or do the cars just pile up at the bottom year after year?

Adam Rockwell's avatar

Yeah, they have it attached to a cable and winch it out.

Loved this. Cracking up over here with these lines "It has been reported that land mammals drop over dead if they even think about drinking the water. That smells about right."

Ha, as soon as you mentioned the Klunker I thought of the Schmaiman book.

Books ok, tv show bad, but shame about him :)

Yeah, I could never get into it and I read some weird stuff. Funny that this famous writer from the UK ended up in our little village

I'm glad I fast-forwarded the video. Hmmmm. Now I'm wondering who this graphic novelist is. Perhaps it doesn't matter because I don't concern myself with graphic novels, especially ones made into movies. But I do wonder if Canadian Dieties was the inspiration for Northern Exposure. Chris's throwing Maggie's piano into eternity with his home-built trebulchet (sp???) comes to mind.

I LOVED that episode of Northern Exposure. I recently rewatched ALL of them (even the last season). That has got to be one of the best episodes. The fling, or whatever they called it. (Yeah, that video is pretty funny LOL 😹😹)

In Arkansas we don't get that kind of weather. If it starts freezing it means duck hunting becomes difficult plus my hometown isn't but about 1000 people. I was a teenager during the age of "muscle cars". So, if all else failed we raced cars.

We did a lot of that as well. The upper midwest lakes typically freeze totally solid and then we drive on them too. Although here in Oregon, if there's a freeze there's a BIG problem 😅

So . . . how many Klunkers still remain at the bottom of the smelly blue-green pond? Could they be contributing to the smell and/or color of said pond? I also searched for the comic book guy that moved to Menominee but I think the one I found isn't the one that is. Great read, btw, for a beautiful balmy November evening in Austin TX.

Try the google search “menomonie wisconsin famous residents.” And there are two similar towns in Wisconsin…Menomonie or Menomonee…this one is “ie” 😊

I did a quick Wikipedia search and saw "Rockwell, J Flint" in the listing 😁https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:People_from_Menomonie,_Wisconsin#:~:text=Rockwell%20J.,Luke%20Helder.

I'll take a closer look later - off for a bike ride in the predawn!

I really should read all the way through… Canadian Deities 😅 I’ve read the synopsis and know that the car on ice has some major plot points. Thanks for reading, Wendy!

It’s so good that the minute I finished I started to reread….just a wonderful piece of work. The tv series had it’s moments, but the book is a mesmerizing experience.

What kind of industries are near the lake? I’m curious.

Mostly agriculture (turkey and cows) but also a glass factory.

North of the lake is general farming (soy corn bean etc), but apparently a bug problem is a turkey farm a ways up river. 3M also has a manufacturing plant on the lake and there’s now a glass factory…… 🏭
