I appreciate the Dan Brown reference because I often ponder how much he does know!! (P.S if you’re into all that, read The Real Messiah and The Templar Revelation, where Dan Brown supposedly got a lot of source material from. SUPER interesting!)
You’ll be pleased/horrified to know that South East Asia’s’ attitudes towards ferry safety (particularly in southern Thailand) haven’t evolved a jot since 1995 and I, too, am terrified of them. Emergency exits? Pah!! For what?! Life vests?! Not a chance. Waves that would have sunk the Titanic if not for that damned iceberg? They LAUGH IN THE FACE OF GIANT WAVES! If the boat ride doesn’t kill me, the heart attack likely will.
Thanks Maggie! I have heard that about South East Asia. Sometimes you hear about some horrific ferry accident in the neck of the world.
I will check out the Real Messiah, I really liked a few Dan Brown books. I had one professor in College who spent his final years trying to debunk The Davinci Code. Which I thought was weird… it being fiction and all.
lol funny you should say that, when I was googling to check I got the name right for you, the first couple of results were also people trying to “debunk” it. Like wot?! 😂
OMG!!! 😂😂😂 Hilarious! And terrifying! NOTE TO SELF: NEVER TAKE A NOVEMBER FERRY IN WISCONSIN. UNLESS YOU'VE BEEN DRINKING. 😂 Sea sickness sounds awful though! :(
Wow, what a story! I get seasick just like you. Also in cars, though. I've noticed that if I get enough sleep and I have a full stomach, I don't get it as badly. Not sure how that works 🤔
Hey! I lived in EC in the mid 90s! Now I live near Lake Superior and The Apostle and Madeleine Island - oddly, I've never been there, although I've been to Mackinac Island in MI many times. Very fun story!
I've wanted to many times, just has never panned out, I guess - but I think it would be fun. I actually like the Ferry rides, but angry, stormy, though beautiful, scares the crap outta me!
This was both hilarious and er, sobering. Aiee! Have heard the Edmund Fitzgerald song a number of times too -- but probably would have been equally hapless at that age. Ha, thanks, Leinenkugel's. Oh btw, I have been on a few really small ferries (such as the one from Manhattan to Governors Island, not known for its rough waters) but also the really big ones in Washington State on Puget Sound and the Staten Island ferries. Growing up, I consistently was motion sick in cars but not on large ferries. Hopefully the size will make the difference for you on the upcoming trip!
Thank You 😊 I’m hoping the same!! I’ve never been on the Staten Island Ferry or anything, but I did get sick on a small ferry in Stockholm Harbor a long time ago 🥲😂
That's some ferry ride! Was Gordon Lightfoot anywhere near that ferry? :-)
Im just glad he wasn’t! 😅
😂
Wow. I’m surprised you would ever get on a ferry again. Do you have nightmares about that experience?
I do!! I think about that one a lot. We are going up to WA Olympic Peninsula and are going to take a ferry to Seattle and I’m already like 😬😬😬
See if your buds can send you some of that beer.
That’s not a bad idea! I’ll get drunk before I go… or I’ll have a CBD gummy 😅
You know how bad this is? Listening to the episode is making me seasick!!!
Thank you, Dungeon Mistress! I appreciate that 😊

Glad you survived! 😆

Thanks Megan! Yeah, drinkin’ on the high seas is the cure 😄

Yeah, I’ve found it weird how sometimes I get it, and sometimes I don’t. I’ve also found that eating something can help which seems upside down!
Right? The body is a mystery.

Thanks Keila!! I love that area. You’ll have to take a… Ferry Ride on day and check it out. There’s a really nice state park out there 😄

Scary stuff! Ferries are the worst. :)
I hate ferries!! 🫠

Darnit. But yah, the large ones do seem fairly stable. Good luck, folks!
