P.S. I've never had a broken toe, but I did get a hairline fracture jumping from two patio stairs on to a skateboard ala Farrah Fawcett chasing a perp in Charlie's Angels.

YIKES! I also think I've had more fractures than I know.

I broke my baby toe (right foot) in Menomonie WI in 1997 and went to Red Cedar ER. My baby toe was also pointing 90degrees to the side, just like your drawing. I caught mine on a coffee table leg though. And yes, I go barefoot as a hippie most of the time. Still do.

The doc laughed at me, he said that the only thing to do for broken toes is to buddy tape them to the next door toes with a cotton ball cushion. I hobbled through the halls of Menomonee high school (I was an English teacher then) with a cane for four weeks.

I’ve broke. Toes 3 times since then. I’ve never gone to a doctor for it since that first time.

But now my right side “ring finger” toe does bend rather loosely in directions it shouldn’t. Yup. Broke that one too once.

Amazing we had such a similar experience in the same town.

Oh, that is so funny (not your pain haha). Experiencing the Red Cedar Clinic is a bit of tradition for my family. Dr. Figel was my Doctor for so many years, and I think he might still be there.

I don't remember the exact year this happened to me. Must've been around 2011 or so...

They seem like they didn't treat you like you were DYING though! :)

A lot has changed in medicine since 1997. I don’t think I even paid a copay. Insurance covered everything for me.

I don't remember how much it was, but the surgery would've costed a bundle that I skipped.

We are on "good" health insurance now and still have a $2500 deductive, which I'm told is ok

Your accompanying imagery is on point! And thank you for clearing up the “put a pin in it” origin. (Again, my dog wonders why I’m laughing to myself… as does my husband!)

I probably should’ve let them put a pin in my toe 😅 And my wife thinks I can’t draw! Thanks for reading, CB!!

Sucks is a curse word? Oh jeez. Whoops, is that one too? Yikes!

Thank goodness Baby healed up OK on her own though because WOWZERS the US healthcare system 😩

Even though I left Australia over six years ago, I thank my lucky stars ever time I’m worried about my health (which is always since I turned 40) that I can go back there for free healthcare if anything serious happens (and if anything not serious happens, but the flight prices are nuts so we don’t do that). Meanwhile, here in Vietnam, we had 2 specialists, 5 tests, and medication, all the same day for under $350 (for a stomach ulcer and something else my partner says he’ll leave me over if I put on the internet).

Oh now I’m just healthcare shaming and that’s not cool. I’m sorry.

GRAVITRON!?! We had that too and it’s the ONLY ride I would go on. That thing was the best.

Thanks Maggie! Luckily she (the toe) seems to function again haha!

I’m definitely jealous of that healthcare. They’d probably just charge me $50 where you are now! I too can’t post some stuff on here or my wife will kill me!, but I’m an over sharer. I’m about to turn fifty and we’re like, Maybe we should move next to the hospital 😁

You had a graviton in Australia!! What?

Hooray for functioning toe!

To be fair the stomach ulcer and unmentionable thing were his, and he’s already mad I tell friends sometimes at dinner when I get carried away 😅 but I have zero shame (latest article: I Shat Myself in the Himalayas- no joke). Once, he sliced his eyebrow (and very nearly eye) open here, and the hospital visit cost less than $10, including daily trips back to clean the wound and change the dressing. Don’t move next to a hospital, just move to Vietnam! 😜

Yes!!! The Gravitron was at our version of Disneyland haha. I loved it! I felt like such a badass (for once) because it would make all the other kids throw up but not meeee!

I think this is probably the best most Americans can do for health insurance, move to Vietnam! 🇻🇳 “Blue Cross Blue Shield Vietnam’s edition.”

The Gravitron we were like, how is this legal even when we were twelve.

Even a return ticket is probably more cost-effective if you can’t move your whole fam. Though not so effective for toe emergencies. Or emergency emergencies. 😅

Right?! This was 80s and 90s and then it mysteriously disappeared. I was heartbroken. But not broken bones broken. So there’s that.

I think I might’ve spotted one around here at a county fair a few years back,…

Adam, I don't feel sorry for you at all. You live near Menomonie, Wisconsin? That part of the world is gorgeous. Especially early in the summertime. Like now. In fact, I'm so jealous I could hate you if I tried. OK, that's harsh. I'm sorry your hurt your little toe. OK, now go out and sit in the sun and know how smart you are for living where you live. Damn. Menomonie, Wisconsin.

It is very nice in the Summer, Fall, and half the spring :)

I'm actually now on the Oregon Coast. Don't cry for me...

The Little Broken Baby toe incident DID take place in Menomonie where I lived a majority of my life.

I’ve broke a couple of toes, but not like that! Each time I wasn’t supposed to get it wet, so I showered with a toe encased in a condom.

Ha! That's one way to do it I suppose...

I took baths (as usual) with my foot hanging out of the tub.

These dang toes can be problematic!

If you were a foot model, Sir, you most assuredly would not have been laughing! Brilliant all around, but seriously...there should be an accompanying (real) photo.
